This subcategory of the Soundmap is dedicated to reverberant spaces, or more simply put, balloon pops!
Inflate a large balloon to 18 or more inches and record the sound it makes when popped. Since the balloons are inflated so large, the sound they make is less of a “pop” and more of a “BOOM!”
As the pop reverberates out, it hits walls, people, materials, and that changes the sounds’ direction and intensity.
Example 1:

In this example, Sally Scripps pops her balloon in a small, concrete room. The concrete reflects the sound back efficiently, without absorbing much sound. This results in a long reverberation time.
